Susan Stewart, Principal  I am thrilled to be the new principal at Monkton Central School! My interest in becoming the principal of MCS stemmed from my many years as a classroom teacher as well as my work as a member of the Bristol School Board. My abiding hope for a more just global society than the one in which we currently find ourselves grounds my daily work. I enjoy working with students, teachers, parents and other adults in the community. Working with the whole system in mind each day, stewarding each of its parts in pursuit of achievement of its highest potential, is exciting work. Because I have high hopes for much needed systemic change in the way we structure our public education, I have been happy to leave the classroom and assume a more formal role as an educational leader, the role of principal.
This is picture of me on my first day of school as a principal with one of the first students I met. Our connection is that we were both brand new to Monkton Central School; it was his first day of kindergarten. Since then I have made lots of friends at school. Hopefully I'll have photos of them soon too.
Bio:
Though I am not a native Vermonter, I grew up on a farm in Goshen, Vermont. In addition to our family milk cows, we raised horses, dogs, chickens, pigs and occassioinally beef cattle and sheep. I spent many hours with the animals, especially the horses; walking in the woods; and enjoying my family. I attended Forestdale Elementary School, Seminary Street School in Brandon (there was a merger) and finally Otter Valley Union High School. After high school I moved away for about six years living in Connecticut, Boston and Scotland before I realized that I really couldn't find a place I'd rather be than in Vermont.
Currently, I live in Bristol with my (now famous) husband, Chico, and our cat, Louise. I enjoy being active outdoors. I also love to read, write and dance. Our grown son lives in Washington, DC. We like to see him as often as possible. We all love to travel! |
